Sea salt ice cream. A curious sounding treat. A curious tasting one too. Meglumar had purchased some from a vendor around the area, and had now taken refuge from the heartless to enjoy it in peace. Said refuge took the form of a large bell tower, overlooking the city. It was remarkably peaceful. He took a bite of the ice cream. A unique taste. It wasn't as good as strawberry ice cream, but it was still good anyways. It seemed fitting for some odd reason. He gazed out on the town below. Not many people were in sight on the ground, and he could not see any heartless either. Chances are they were hiding in the DARKNESS, but...well, it was vacant and alone for the moment. He took another bite as he looked out over the city below him. It was a remarkably peaceful moment. It was something hard to find in these worlds, due to the constant fighting of heartless. He was able to see for the first time how beautiful this world he had found looked. He found himself smiling slightly, just taking in the sight of the lights below. "We just keep running into each other, don't we, love?" The voice came from Star, although it was more relaxed than her usual high-pitched voice. A small giggle ended the statement. If Meglumar turned around, he would see Star standing by the door that led up to this particular viewing platform, her hand resting on the doorknob for a moment as if she was uncertain, almost guilty to be out here disturbing the peace. To be honest, she wasn't up here to stalk Meglumar. She had just needed...somewhere to take a quick breath. And she was sure that Meglumar needed a breather from her too. She held no illusions about how difficult it was to be in her company. It was too bad she couldn't exactly say the same thing about his. She walked over to the ledge he was sitting on, resting one hand on it before turning towards him. The wind up here was murder on her hair. She had only tied it back loosely with a claw near the top of her head to keep it out of her face and now it was pretty much flying in all directions as she smiled at Meglumar. "Is this seat taken?" she asked. |

Meglumar's head turned with surprise. Wow. Star. Again. Well, this was a surprise. "...I always have a seat open for you." He said, scooting over slightly so Star could have more room. It seemed she too was up here to relax. Her voice was...not as hyper or high pitched as normal. It was more of a tired tone. He looked to his ice cream. It had two stick in it, so...maybe... He shook his head slightly, before grabbing onto the two sticks and snapping it into two smaller bits of ice cream. He held the part of the ice cream that he didn't bit into out to Star. "I think you might like this." He said, with not much else to say after that. He just continued to look out at the city below, taking a bite of the ice cream as he did so. "The town looks much different from up here." He said to Star, making a note of how different it all looked up here. "It's breathtakingly amazing." He said, the small smile still on his face. |

Star smiled, swinging her legs over the side and sitting down. It was a little scary sitting like this, with a sure plunge to her death just a few inches away, but Star found that there was also something peaceful about it. They were the only two people up here, and the Heartless and noise of all of Traverse Town seemed so distant and far away. "Thanks," she said, accepting the stick of ice cream and taking a bite. "Mmph--" she said suddenly, pulling her head back from the ice cream and covering her mouth with one hand. She had taken a bigger bite than she wanted to, and the saltiness of it surprised her. She swallowed it quickly, taking a smaller bite. It was salty, but the saltiness seemed to balance the sweet in a way. Star laughed a little. "Well, I wasn't expecting that," she said, "What flavor is this anyway?" She took another bite of the ice cream, smiling as she looked out over the city. Traverse Town really was something from up here. From the ground it looked old and tired but from above it looked...almost magical. It was too bad it didn't have any sunlight, or Star might have stayed for longer periods of time, but the idea of being without sunlight for more than one night severely freaked her out. Especially in a situation where she needed it. "Mm..." she said, when Meglumar said it was an amazing sight. She giggled slightly. "Meglumar...that's the most emotional thing I've heard you say since the Order." Edited by Chizu, Dec 8 2009, 12:49 AM.

"It's Sea Salt Ice Cream." He said to Star, as he took another bite of it. "It sounded interesting, and I wished to have something that reminded me of home. Even if it is just the taste of the sea salt, it reminds me of the smell of the waters on the beach." He said, continuing his consumption of the ice cream. He then turned SLIGHTLY red as Star mentioned his emotional nature. "Well, yes. I suppose it is. Ever since the light manifested in me, I have been unable to control my emotions very well, save for in battle when I absolutely must." He said, grabbing his sheathed sword that was sitting off to the side. He removed the blade, and watched as it glowed with the white light, the etched in lines giving off a faint blue light to match. The sword quickly died down, and he placed it back into it's scabbard, and placed it back down. "It seems the more this light from within grows, the more trouble I may have with my control. This worries me. And the fact that it worries me worries me as well. It is quite confusing, I have never felt this strongly before." He said, a genuine air of uneasiness surrounding him. "If it keeps on like this, I fear my usefulness will drop on the battlefield. A Knight must be in control at all times." He said, before shaking his head and taking yet another bite from the ice cream. "...Hopefully when this is all over I will return to my state of control." |

"Mm..." said Star, one hand on her lap as she took a bite of ice cream and looked down at the city. If there was one thing she would never agree with, it was Meglumar's sentiments towards emotion. Granted, she knew that emotion had to be controlled. It was one of the things she did best when she had to. It was the only reason she managed to get J and Tsu together in the first place, and the only reason she managed to keep fighting in Niwa without turning around and running for the hills. But there was a difference between controlling and suppressing entirely. Her eyes were downcast as she took another small bite of ice cream, in silence for a little while. There was so much emphasis on Hearts. Heartless were the remains of a corrupted Heart. Nobodies were people that didn't have any Hearts. Heartless were after World Hearts. That had to mean something, right? If Hearts were so important, than they had to mean something... ...They weren't things to be suppressed entirely. Even when they hurt. "Are you sure that's the right thing to do?" she asked quietly, looking down at the ground. |

"The right thing to do?" Meglumar echoed, thinking. "I do not know. He admitted. "It is how I was raised to believe. If we did not remain in complete control of ourselves, my father's people, my mother's people, almost every people would have been long since killed." He said, with a shrug. "It has worked well for me my entire life." He said, with a sigh. "Feeling this much, it is completely strange. Completely new. It is too much for me. It is very different. It is as big of a shock to me as the shock of arriving in Kara was." He said, putting the way this felt into the best words that he could. "So much conflict. So much confusion. It's like my brain is in the middle of a storm." He said, with a small groan. "Most of the time the emotions act up, anyways. Sometimes they are not as strong, and more subtle. It's jarring to feel them grow stronger yet act in a more...more...I can not explain." He said, with a groan. "....This is all too confusing for me." |

Star sat there in silence for a few moments. She took another bite of her ice cream, then used her tongue to catch a droplet that was about to make it's way down to her hand. Sea salt ice cream, huh? She could get used to the odd taste, it was...interesting. She took another bite of the ice cream and sat there for a few more moments, thinking about what to say. It was odd. She was never at a loss for words, except when other people wanted her to talk. With J it had been the same thing, the first time, when she walked in expecting a meal and got his entire life story. "Maybe...maybe that's not a bad thing, though," she said, finally. "Maybe...now that you're in a different world, it's time to start taking things a different way?" She didn't look at Meglumar as she talked, but continued to look at the ground, kicking her legs back and forth as she sat there with her ice cream. "Emotions aren't necessarily bad. Sure, they need to be controlled, but not suppressed entirely. And sometimes, they are good things. Like caring about someone...or falling in love." |

Meglumar thought on as Star spoke to him. Why did this girl have to keep bringing up so many good points? "...Yeah, I guess you do have a point. I am no longer in my home. I need to adapt. I need to follow the examples of the first disciples of Zeras, and adapt to survive properly." If he did not follow the basic reasoning of why his ancestors even did the things they did. Then came one word. 'Love.' Meglumar found himself actually drop his ice cream, and couldn't help but watch helplessly as it feel straight down to the ground below. The idea of love? That was something still very strange and foreign to him. "L-Love? Hrm. I don't even know what to think on that." He said, looking away from Star. THAT was a subject he was clueless in, due to how confusing humans made it here. He was so used to the idea of this sort of things being arranged, it was just the way he saw things normally. Any other way just seemed....bizarre. |

Star smiled a little when Meglumar dropped his ice cream. The L-word was something that she didn't really say too often around him, because it always had the same effect. She looked away and back at the city, kicking her legs back and forth, her heart suddenly feeling heavier. She almost wished she hadn't spoken at all. Star extended her hand towards him, offering him the other half of her ice cream. "I take it you don't like the idea?" she asked, resting her hand on the ledge beside her. Star hated the idea of arrangements when it came to love. In her mind, love wasn't the sort of thing that should be arranged. It wasn't the sort of thing that COULD be arranged. It was love, plain and simple. And of course that was the only reason why Meglumar's statement suddenly made her feel...hurt in a way. Like she had overstepped her boundaries. Still, she offered him a sweet smile as she sat there. |

Meglumr was silent as Star offered the ice cream. He was deep in thought. DID he hate the idea? That was a good question. He didn't know. These stupid feeling things made it really hard to decide one way or another. Right now, what he was feeling was just confusion. At least he thought it was confusion. Then he looked up at Star's smile. That smile was something that always put him in an odd state of being. He was silent for a moment longer, before his hand reached up towards the ice cream. he broke off a small piece of it, and took a bit of it. "I don't dislike the idea of it." He said, before tossing the piece into his mouth. "It's just something I can not understand. But there are a lot of things I can not understand. Maybe I will someday, though." |

"Maybe with the right person," said Star with a small smile as she looked away and took another bite of the ice cream. It was nearly gone now. She placed the popsicle stick down beside her and looked up at the stars. Traverse Town had so many different stars, and they were always visible. It was a beautiful sight...if there was one thing she liked about night, it was the stars. Star's eyes widened suddenly as the whole world spun. Her mouth opened slightly, the color leaving her face. It felt like a sudden white-hot flash of pain spreading over her body, then disappearing as soon as it came, leaving her cold and light-headed. The suddenness of it knocked the breath out of her and before she knew what was happening, she was spiraling into DARKNESS. Star's eyes closed as she pitched forward, unaware that she was falling...falling... |

And stopping. Meglumar was hanging off the edge of the tower with one hand, holding Star with the other. This was not good. At all. "STAR!" He yelled out tot he girl, very surprised at what had just happened. Did she just pass out or something!? It was all so sudden, he had acted so quickly, and he was so filled with worry. He grunted with strain as he began to pull himself back up. Thank GOD AND ZERAS he had spent his entire life doing farm-work, building up his physical strength. He wasn't superhuman, but he was in shape. Very good shape, to boot. After a few moments, he found himself back on the roof, Star alongside him, Meglumar pulling her away from the edge. "Star? Star! Are you alright?" he asked, with visible concern. His partner almost fell off this tower, she almost became a human pancake! THAT was unacceptable. What caused this? Was she sick? He didn't even know right now, and all he wanted was to at least hear Star say something, ANYTHING. |

Star barely even noticed that she was being pulled back onto the tower. She wasn't completely unconscious, but sight and sound swirled around her in a display of light and colors that to her seemed almost meaningless. She felt like she was detached from everything, floating in the void, neither here nor there. Meglumar's voice seemed to echo forever, distorted and muffled, so that she couldn't really hear what he was saying. But it was enough to call her back. Star's eyes twitched beneath her eyelids as she frowned and pulled closer to him, the rest of the world slowly coming back into focus. She felt like she was lying on the ground, on something warm. Thought began to come back together and reason began to return and she remembered that she had been on a tower with Meglumar. What happened then? "Star? Star! Are you alright?" "Ugh...", said Star, sitting up and holding her head. Her head still felt like it was spinning, but she was awake enough to know that she was sitting on the floor of the tower, and from the looks of it, had just been saved from an untimely death. "I'm fine..." she said softly into her hands. She looked up and smiled at Meglumar. "Just a little dizzy for a moment. No big deal." |

Meglumar sighed with a great deal of relief, actually giving the girl a small hug, thankful she was alright. "Are you sure? You almost fell off completely." He said, before releasing his grip on the girl. She said she was alright, and she was talking, but even still. He almost had a heart attack when she started her little descent. "Even one second longer, and I'd never have reached you." He said, REALLY grateful that was not the case. He placed his hand on her forehead. It wasn't HOT, per se, but it was cold. Her face was pale. It was as if something had just......drained her. Then it dawned on him. Star was an element user. And her element was light. Traverse town didn't even have sunlight, and they'd been staying her for a while. He made a mental note to himself. Tomorrow, they needed to head to somewhere like Florencia. Star could absorb sunlight there, and they could do other Arcadia-ey things or work for the Knights there. |
