It's Pathetic, right?
Jameson sighed heavily...

Two days prior he'd been in Niwa. Then all hell broke loose. He got shot, a gang war broke out, and he was hospitalized where he received flowers, a bill for dry cleaning, and a headache from doctors poking and prodding him, and all manner of other things. However thanks to his stubborn ways he had managed to get out much sooner than healthy to report what he'd taken from Ryounosuke to the police. He glanced up to his wall..

The stuck to it by thumb tack was a picture of Ryounosuke and Chetose. He smiled fondly. The damn brat had gotten his woman back and conquered most of the Takeda's land until finally they incorporated their family as a sub family of the Takeshi. Throughput this all Ryounosuke had become head of a newly formed even more powerful family. Lucky little brat had made out pretty damn well for betraying him. Oh well, Jameson could forgive him. If it was for his girl then Jameson could forgive him.

Jameson himself had bandages on his side but was mostly fine. He'd recently called Nozomi to come and see if she could heal him again. Or at least just use her ability. It felt silly needing her twice in one week. He really was reckless. However for the time being he had another more pressing matter. He needed to situate Akira in their home. Not to mention the matter of Ewan. No one had found his body in the burned house which meant he had escaped... somehow. But they had been separated and Ewan hadn't returned since...

He winced, leaning on his cane he stepped into his living room and looked around. His side was bandaged and felt much better but he was still sore and stiff. He certainly felt light headed. But even so he put on a strong outwards appearance. He didn't want his roommates thinking anything of his condition. It was bad enough he constantly reminded himself of it. Much less if others also made a big deal of it.

Well... No time for dwelling that. He had to familiarize Akira with her new place of residence.

The house numbers seemed to indicate she was in the right place. Having felt bad about what had transpired the last time she'd seen Jameson, she was both reluctant and eager to try and make him feel better a second time. However, Nozomi tried to put that aside and focus on the fundamental issue; she was a doctor and someone needed healing. Even if she still looked like an idiot for attacking an injured kid just coming off of an emotionally taxing event, there was no getting around her job as a medical practitioner. There was a bit of fleeting optimism too. He had called her personally, after all. Maybe it wasn't as big a deal as she thought it was.

The doctor sighed; this went a long way towards showing just how out of touch her social skills were. Checking the paper one more time, she spotted the place. It didn't look much different from the rest of the housing in the area. To be honest, it all looked a bit cheesy for her taste as if it had designed by Walt Disney. Nozomi wasn't at all surprised at the news of Jameson injuring himself. Given his emotional state, he had seemed likely to do something rash and reckless. She felt a bit guilty for not doing more to comfort him. If anything, she should have at least gone after him or tried to contact him afterwards to make sure he was alright. That was something doctors always did and she was more than his doctor.

Checking the paper for a second last time, she checked the number on the door, which had not changed the last few times she'd checked it. "Ugh, what am I doing?" She said, shaking her head to rid herself of any remaining stupid that was causing her to space out like this. The re-focused commander rapped her knuckles on the door three times and awaited a response. Hopefully he hadn't gotten hurt so badly that he couldn't answer the door himself. Was that possible? Should she just go in? No, that would be rude either way. Unless of course he really couldn't get up. Nozomi reached for the doorknob hesitantly, but quickly pulled her hand back. What if he answered the door right as she was going for it? It'd look like she was trying to walk into his house like some kind of inconsiderate moocher.

Still, she didn't hear anything on the other side, maybe he really was hurt too badly or was resting. Being thought of as a moocher didn't seem as bad as being the one who made an injured man crawl to the door. She had to at least try. Nozomi slowly reached for the dooknob...

Drifting gradually into consciousness, Yumi was struck first by the comfort of the sheets which surrounded her, the softness of the mattress supporting her weight. She lay still for a few moments, not wanting to open her eyes, basking in the decadence that was the late morning sunlight playing on her face.

It was such a nice change from the thin futon in the Takeshi mansion which she had never actually had the chance to use. The stark contrast of this lazy moment to the tension-filled experience of gun-toting Yakuza thugs shooting at herself and her mentor as the house around them literally exploded in flames was truly remarkable. It was no wonder she had slept late. Even though it had been a couple of days, that kind of trauma took a while to wear off.

After savouring the pure bliss of the moment for a few minutes longer, Yumi eventually wriggled under the sheets and stretched, yawning widely. Finally opening her eyes, she sat up in bed and inspected her surroundings. The room Jameson had kindly assigned to her was not the most spacious of dwellings, but Yumi liked it. It was cosy. Besides, she was just grateful to have a roof over her head. Thoughts straying to the detective, she wondered how he was feeling. He'd been in hospital since they returned from Niwa, and she'd sat by his bed for much of that time, keeping vigil. Naturally he'd convinced the doctors to release him much too early however, and he was still in obvious pain, although he didn't like to admit it. She should probably get her lazy behind out of bed and go check up on him.

Throwing off the covers, she jumped out of bed, bouncing over to where she had left her clothes and quickly getting dressed. She really needed to go shopping and invest in a new outfit... she was getting sick of wearing the same thing every day. Hearing a rather obnoxious noise emitting from her stomach, she realised she should probably rustle up some grub too.

Ah, the mundane issues of regular daily life... it was nice to be able to think about everyday things again. Between the world ending, accidentally jumping through cross-gates to random worlds and then the whole Niwa adventure, she hadn't really had a chance to just be normal since Hyakuji was destroyed. It was a nice change.

Finally finishing her morning routine, she wandered out to explore the rest of the apartment again and see what Jameson was up to. There was nothing much else that particularly demanded her attention. She liked it.

An odd feeling. Like a tingling on the edge of your awareness. To put it in the terms of a metaphor you might have some chance at comprehending it was like the periphery of your vision catching a glimpse of motion. Awareness, consciousness, all around him. Swirling to life. The feeling of others nearby. Their presence always pressed on his mind. Somehow he'd gotten used to it. Somehow he slept at night despite that tingle at the edge of his mind... It certainly hadn't always been there.

Perhaps he was the one being supported.

He yawned stretching out and rising from the scavenged computer. He stretched, the sound from his mouth betrayed his exhaustion. Another night with little sleep. Somehow he was used to it. But the butt hurting from sitting so long he'd never get used to. Perpetual night did horrible things to your sleep schedule. He'd adjusted to his laptop's concept of time as much as possible. As much as he could. But he couldn't help sleeping at 2 in the afternoon when all the interesting things happened at midnight.

He stepped into the living room. Yumi's sudden activity had caused himself to set into motion. He grabbed his shirt off the floor. He tossed it on leaving it unbuttoned for now. He had an undershirt on anyhow. Not that it particularly mattered since apparently Miyuki had taken off his shirt and had Yumi help do the surgery. He glanced to a mirror looking at himself. "Well you're no Nickle Ryouko.." He said to himself with a sheepish grin.

And that didn't even begin to address the scars.

He could only be glad that such a visual display of the many dangers of his lifestyle didn't immediately send her running. He walked over to his hat rack and grabbed a tie. His hat was actually already on his head. SO a hat rack made more sense for ties. Unlike Yumi he had a lot of clothes. He liked to go to Niwa and Tokyo and shop on his free time to feel.. well.. normal for a bit.

He glanced to his reflection with a sigh. He walked to the table grabbing his eyepatch. He slid it under his hair and pulled it behind his head.It was itchy and uncomfortable. While other slept he liked to remove it. But never once they woke. He didn't want to chance them seeing it. However at this moment he felt another sensation on his periphery.

He turned to the door.. His stomach turned because her stomach turned. He felt her nervous anxiety.. Jameson snickered to himself. "You really know how to make an impression.. Mr. Willicott.." He tilted his head a bit. "Now just to figure out how to make it not be the absolute worst one every time.." He approached the door opening it as she was also moving to do like wise.

His eyes traced along her arm up to her face with a blank expression. "Just uh.. letting yourself in?" He said behind a smirk. "I mean I know I'm slow to answer the door but I AM crippled.." He said pointing to his knee.

Nozomi blinked. It seems the poor girl had spaced out again, unable to decide whether or not to open the door herself. Realizing he now standing there, the embarrassed operative quickly withdrew her hand, shuffling it into her other one and looked around momentarily for an excuse. You're an adult! she reminded herself, taking a deep breath and steadying herself to look her friend in the eye. Which itself looked as it had taken a rather unfortunate beating. "I wasn't going to- that is, no I was just...um...reaching..for..the doorbell!" She suddenly decided. "I couldn't be sure if you had heard me knock or not, so I was going to ring the doorbell to make sure that you heard me. Since I wasn't sure. If you had heard the knocking. As I said."

Shut up!

Clearing her throat, she looked her patient up and down. Whatever had happened, he looked worse now than he had when she found him before. It was likely he'd aggravated those injuries too. Even with her healing abilities, he couldn't have been in perfect shape by the time this happened, hopefully they'd taken care of whatever was wrong with the pressure inside his head. A condition like that could be potentially life threatening if it wasn't taken care of properly. It certainly wasn't safe for him to go around getting his ass kicked with those kinds of problems either. Judging by the way he was leaning on the cane, his leg injury appeared to be a-

You're in doctor mode, stop staring blankly at him and say something!

"Er, right! Well, are you going to invite me in or are we going to stand out here all day until I have to treat you for a cold, too?" Nozomi said, attempting to turn things around. That'd teach him to...do whatever it was that made her look like an airhead.

Yumi yawned and stretched her arms above her head as she wandered through the apartment, looking for Jameson. Hearing the sound of voices coming from the front door, she followed her ears and went to investigate. Sure enough, there was the detective - holding the door ajar, and wearing a familiar teasing expression on his face, which could only mean one thing. Another 'dame' was falling victim to his wiles.

Sure enough. "Just uh.. letting yourself in? I mean I know I'm slow to answer the door but I AM crippled.." He smirked, pointing to his knee.

"I wasn't going to- that is, no I was just...um...reaching..for..the doorbell! I couldn't be sure if you had heard me knock or not, so I was going to ring the doorbell to make sure that you heard me. Since I wasn't sure. If you had heard the knocking. As I said."

The poor girl on their doorstep, whoever she was, was clearly suffering immensely under Jameson's teasing. He sure knew how to push the right buttons... Yumi felt it was her duty to come to her fellow female's rescue, and was just about to do so when the newcomer seemed to regain control of herself and the situation.

"Er, right! Well, are you going to invite me in or are we going to stand out here all day until I have to treat you for a cold, too?"

Treat him for a cold, too? Did that mean this girl had treated some of Jameson's other injuries in the past? Yumi suddenly recalled the day they had gone to Niwa, when he had seemed much less bothered by pain than usual. This girl could be the missing piece of the puzzle. They seemed to have met before, or at least, the detective appeared to have been expecting her. Geez, he could have warned me we were expecting guests, Yumi thought, with just a touch of annoyance. I could have still been in my pajamas! ....Er, well actually, probably not, she corrected herself. Jameson would probably have died if he saw me in satin... She giggled.

Realising suddenly that the girl was still standing out on the front step, and Jameson had not moved to let her in, Yumi leapt into action - literally. Springing forward, she hung herself off Jameson's shoulder and peaked over the top.

"Hello!" she greeted the newcomer cheerily. "Forgive this guy's rudeness, he's a big tease. Come right in!" With that, she climbed down off the detective again and pulled the door wide open. "Oh, I'm Yumi by the way, nice to meet you," she added as an afterthought.

"Hurm.. I dunno, the breeze is nice here and I'm not particularly cold so the only one in a hurry is you I guess, since you were going to just barge right in without even letting me to the door you must be in some sort of time crunch.." Jameson said leaning against the door frame as he was shoved aside by Yumi's eager cheer. He grinned a bit at the woman while looking away. "Also I can detect lies with my power.." He said quietly. "That whole doorbell thing? Yeah."

He said with a snicker as she was ushered into the humble abode of Jameson's makeshift detective agency. He pushed off the doorway and limped into the main main room. He grabbed his cane from beside the couch and walked over towards the table. "I'm sorry to bother you again so soon..." He sighed. "Various circumstances arose and I was injured in Niwa.."

"By uh.. bullets." He said with a sheepish smile. His air of superiority in the conversation was now lost. He'd certainly not be able to tease her while requesting her help. "While I know you're EXCEPTIONALLY busy.." Okay, maybe a little teasing was possible. "I would be appreciative if you could perhaps help the wound as much as possible. I am aware it's a bit rude to call you over just for that.."

"It's like I want to treat you as a mobile doctor.. At the same time there aren't many of us whom I think can be spared to a hospital bed recovery in this situation." He glanced to Yumi before looking away. "Besides, I have a lot of things to do.. training others.. Arcadia missions. and so on that I can't do while injured."

"I really am sorry though.."

Nozomi rushed herself through the door, avoiding showing him the embarrassed look on her face. Although it seemed rather pointless given his mental abilities. Frankly, the idea that he could read minds in the first place unsettled her. Not that she didn't trust him to show maturity and restraint with the potential for misuse powers like his inherently had. Although it was fairly likely that was exactly what it was. The commander nodded respectfully to the girl, deciding to get comfortable before working on Jameson since he still seemed healthy enough to give her a hard time.

"I'm Dr. Nozomi Kimishima, I suppose you could call me Jameson's attending physician." She said, smiling in his direction. If he kept calling her this frequently, she'd have to ask him to put her on retainer. It was only fair after all, medical school wasn't cheap and so neither was medical service. "I take it you're his better half, so to speak? You really should start disciplining the poor boy, getting into gun battles so soon after a head injury is pretty reckless." She said, smirking. Honestly, Nozomi was a little surprised he had a girl here with him. Not that he didn't seem perfectly capable of getting a girl if he wanted to, he was attractive enough and his personality wasn't ideal or anything but it was cute in a juvenile kind of-

OFF TOPIC!

Taking off her jacket, the agent made for the couch and sat down. She'd have to use her psychometry to understand the extent of his injuries. "I'll need you to sit next to me so I can get a proper feel for your injuries. I'll give you the normal healing, but I want to make sure the other doctors didn't miss anything." Nozomi removed a small bottle of electrolyte lotion from her jacket, putting a bit of it on her hands. The conductivity in it tended to improve her psychometric abilities when pressed against another person. "While I do that, offer me a drink and tell me all about how you went and got yourself shot up." She said, giving him a confident smile. Now that he was the patient, the ball was totally in her court.

Yumi watched on in amusement as the newcomer barged quickly through the door and avoided making eye contact with Jameson. The poor girl was clearly embarrased and attempting to hide it - a futile effort, what with the detective's mental abilities. Yumi couldn't blame her for trying though. The number of times she herself had been caught in the trap of his mental empathy... and they'd really only known each other for a couple of weeks.

"I'm Dr. Nozomi Kimishima, I suppose you could call me Jameson's attending physician." the new girl introduced herself, smiling in the injured man's direction. It was pleasing to see that Jameson was in fact taking steps to look after himself after being discharged from the hospital so early - he could be so darn reckless. And Dr Kimishima seemed to be taking a genuine interest in her mentor's health, a fact which immediately placed her in Yumi's good book. The girl was about to greet her warmly when -

"I take it you're his better half, so to speak? You really should start disciplining the poor boy, getting into gun battles so soon after a head injury is pretty reckless." She was smirking at her!

Yumi was stunned speechless. Jaw moving up and down, she tried to speak but no words seemed to be coming out. She had to correct this misunderstanding! She had to make them understand her true feelings! Now if she could just convert air to speech... waving her arms frantically in front of her face, she began to firmly deny the doctor's (not-unjustifiable) presumption."B-b-better half? Ah n-no, you see, we are just partners!" Wait, that didn't sound much better. "That is, partners in justice! He's my mentor! Training me in the ways of a detective...." Yumi glanced around their shared apartment and blushed. "Uh, and I know it must seem a little strange, a man and woman living alone together, but we're just roomies! Yeah! Like... like in college! You can have co-ed dorm rooms in college, right? Right?" Trailing off, she realised she was rambling, and was probably only making their situation seem more suspicious.

When she allowed herself to truly entertain the thought, however, it was not actually so repugnant to her. It was just... impossible. Although come to think of it, she couldn't say why it was impossible. Not one good reason. Her thoughts jumped, almost against her will, to the rude man she had met the other night. Scrunching up her nose in distaste, she imagined that a relationship with Jameson would be far more pleasant than one with someone like Nickle.

All this time that she had been lost in thought, Yumi had been standing in the middle of the room staring blankly into space. Now, emerging from her reverie, she blinked a few times and realised that the doctor had begun to work on Jameson's injuries. Glancing in his direction, Yumi found she had to look away again immediately. Her recent thoughts were just too fresh - he would be able to sense her embarrassment. Yet another occasion when living with an empath was unbelievably frustrating.

Hearing Dr Kimishima ask for a drink, Yumi indicated that she would go fetch it, and took the opportunity to escape from the room. Hopefully in the kitchen she would be able to regain her composure, away from his disconcerting gaze and overly-active mind.

Jameson could never turn off his empathy... The only way to fail to notice others emotions was to be so caught up in his own that he failed to notice another's. But when his emotions where the same as their it's was like achieving resonance. Their combined emotion was greater than the parts that had made it. So when Nozomi suddenly said something a little embarrassing Yumi's embarrassment compiled with Jameson's to produce a deep shade of red across his cheeks as he looked away placing a hand over his mouth.

.. However....

Unlike Yumi before him whom allowed herself to become consumed in it he was more hardened against it. "It's not like that..." He said flatly. A voice in his head reverberated the impossibilities of anything like that. He laughed towards Nozomi. "It's impossible, right?" He said with a broad smile. He shifted rubbing his arms as he walked towards the doctor. His mouth seemed to snap closed as he glanced towards the window. Even if someone said something like this.. He wouldn't be fooled.

He had been down the path of allowing his imagination to run away with him in it's wake as a both participant and victim of it's whims. Entertaining ideas of that nature. A life that he hadn't pursued because of obligation. He wasn't going to be so easily fooled. He glanced towards Nozomi. "Try to be reasonable, right? Even if I lived in the same room as a woman it wouldn't turn out that way." He said with a snicker. It was the kind of cruel comedy that is both meant to make light of something and reproach the teller.

"Okay, so.." He took off his button down shirt and laid it on the coach, now wearing his sleeveless undershirt. He sat down across from her with a goofy smile. "Okay, doc. Where do I start..?" He closed his eyes..

" It was a dark and stormy night. On a job about a dame, it was always about dames. We were a threesome to be feared stepping down the mean streets of Niwa. Long shadows from small beams of light struggling through the clouds in so much futility. Fedora sat cockeyed on my head as I strolled looking like I was bent on stirring the city up. Like a fish tank the city was a prison for helpless innocents and the more you stirred things up the more cloudy the waters got in their own filth and murk.. And I wasn't the dick to set it right.. I was on a mission, about a dame.

We went to a yakuza, the Takeshis. I was sure they'd know where the dame was. was walking right into open hands that were gonna wring my neck. A double cross is like a passionate romance. It's all games and intensity and everybody winds up on the loosing end eventually. Ryounosuke split us up. He took our boy right to the Takedas who hog tied him up realll pretty. And i was none the wiser..

Me an' Yumi went out, the sky was shining overhead and we had work to do. I was educating her on her skills. The dame fancied herself my apprentice and I wasn't gonna let her down. I taught her what I knew and she learned it as is expected. A million words were said and none of em' meant much. I told a story about an eyepatch, and about a decision that would need made and the silence that followed that was as deafening as a thunderclap.

And then we walked right into it.

I'll be damned if we didn't wrap ourselves up for them.

I told the girl to run back to the house, Ryounosuke was waiting for her. I fought there in the streets. A friend showed up. A friend shot me. We weren't friends no more. I got dragged back to the house and learned that I'd been set up. They were after my Ixa Knuckle. They got it too, shot it. Dunno who put em' up to it but I damn sure walked right into it. They were gonna kill my partners and then the Takedas were gonna kill the Takeshis in a double-double cross. I was drugged and useless Did all I could do with a single mind attack and then... Well then I called a dame.

S'always dames.

Miyuki showed, saved us all, we escaped with our lives. I found out Ryounosuke was being used by the Takedas who had his woman. I told him where she was. Maybe that was right. Maybe not. But the woman weren't to blame. Didn't see no sense in letting her die. Too much blood shed that day. But no more than usual for Niwa. Just another dark and stormy night where no rain fell.."

Jameson tipped his fedora dramatically. "Because the blackest night and the most raging storms.. Are in our hearts." He said finishing off the story in his own style.

The good doctor placed a her hands on his shoulders. Her palms were warm due to the lotion and glowed a faint blue as her abilities began to work their way over and around his body. Nozomi did her best to focus the entire time he regaled her with his cinematic story in rather intense and almost over the top film noir fashion. It was curiously distracting to the say the least. If the room were darker and he were smoking a cigarette, she'd swear she was attending to Philo Vance. He hadn't struck her as being that type of guy, but you never really know what kinds of quirks people have until you get to know them on a more personal level. Still, the hard-boiled detective thing seemed to fit him a little too well.

Once he was finished, she quickly finished finished up her own work. His injuries were rather extensive, but well taken care of by the other physicians. "Well, that certainly was an...interesting delivery. I wasn't aware you such a unique orator." She said, eying him with a raised eyebrow. Well, you learn something new every day. Nozomi wondered how Yumi felt about that. While she claimed they were just friends, she hadn't been entirely too convincing. Then again, that whole hard-boiled detective thing did give it some credence. He seemed like he'd make an interesting mentor though; Jameson struck her as the type who was confident and focused. Certainly not the type to take advantage of a position of power like that just for a girl. The way he'd taught her to henshin without shame reflected that in her mind.

You analyze people too much sometimes...
she thought to herself. You're not supposed to be suspicious of everyone you meet anymore...

"It looks like of these bandages need to be changed, but other than that, you're well taken care of." Nozomi took a small sewing needle from the folds of her skirt and held out her hand for Jameson to put his on. "I'll get on with the healing if you're ready." Curiously, needles made her quite nervous when using them on herself. In the field, she'd had to administer drugs to herself quickly through emergency syringes and it never got any easier. "So I take it this entire affair isn't over quite yet, hm? If you plan to do something reckless again, you might consider bringing me along." She said sternly. Part of her didn't like the idea of him doing this kind of thing regularly, probably the doctor in her wanting to care for his health. It would give her the opportunity to prevent him him from getting injured and if need be, attend to his injuries quicker. "I promise I won't charge much." The commander said smirking.

Upon reaching the kitchen, the first thing Yumi had done was open the door to the fridge and stick her head inside. To an observer this would no doubt have seemed like an innocent enough action, fitting perfectly with the girl's purported aim of retrieving a drink for the doctor. Suspicions might have arisen, however, when the girl's head failed to emerge after approximately 15 seconds. When a full minute had passed and still no movement could be observed, reasonable concerns could have been voiced for Yumi's safety - or sanity.

In actual fact, the brunette found the coolness of the refrigerator to be a refreshing~ relief to her cheeks, still burning in embarrassment from the doctor's presumption and her own response. Standing with her face amidst the the sharp cold air, Yumi was able to recover her composure far sooner than would otherwise have been possible. Finally, she felt it was safe to emerge. Moving to shut the door, she very nearly forgot the entire reason for her kitchen retreat, but remembered to grab a juicebox at the last moment.

Returning to the lounge room, she caught the tail-end of Jameson's rather skilful noir oration of their recent activities. He's so coool, the girl couldn't help but think as she rejoined her companions. I'm so lucky to have him as my mentor!

She held onto the doctor's drink, however, until the other girl was done with her medical administrations. Yumi watched on with semi-professional curiosity as Nozomi changed the detective's bandages. Following her relatively successful debut as a field nurse back in Niwa, Yumi thought it was probably in her best interest (and Jameson's) to pick up a few basic tricks. After all, there wouldn't always be a doctor around, not in the type of scrapes a hard-boiled detective and his apprentice were likely to get into...

Then again.

"If you plan to do something reckless again, you might consider bringing me along. I promise I won't charge much."

Yumi wasn't sure how she felt about the good doctor joining them on future expeditions... it wasn't that she was jealous of Jameson's attention being divided, oh no... of course not! Hadn't she just finished protesting how uninterested they both were in a situation like that?! ....No. What bothered her slightly was the changed dynamic that would inevitably ensue. Two is company but three's a crowd, or so the saying went. Then again, 'the more the merrier' was another common wisdom....

Yumi was clearly not going to get far relying on proverbs or adages to shape her opinion. Mutely handing Nozomi the drink, she moved back and took a seat opposite the others. This was Jameson's decision after all. It was perfectly reasonable for him to want to keep a doctor on hand to tend to his injuries as they occurred. And besides. It was his house.

Yumi was starting to get annoyed by her own thoughts. Deciding that her verbal silence was not sufficient, she shut off her mental voice as well, and awaited Jameson's response to Nozomi's half-jesting suggestion.

Jameson blinked in surprise. "Ah... You'd like to come next time...?" He shifted a bit grinning. "Uwaaah! That'd be..."

Thug: "Oi! Jameson and Yumi! I'll kill you!"

Yumi: "Eeee!!"

Jameson: *protects yumi from bullets with his face*

But if we add in Nozomi

Yumi: "Eee!!"

Nozomi: *protects Yumi form bullets with her armor*

Jameson: *flying kicks the man into space!*

Yumi: "My hero!" *hugs Nozomi*

Jameson: "Eh?! EHHH!? EVEN IN MY OWN FANTASIES?"

Jameson's eyes turned dead as he stared at a wall. "Yeah. Even if I say that it's probable. It's not the first time that something like that happened." He said to the wall. He blinked and turned to Nozomi. "Oh.. Uh.. What?" He was clearly confused, drifting off into fantasy land seemed to has disoriented him. However in a moment he snapped back into focus. "Hurm.. Your assistance on my next outing.." He touched his hand to his chin for a moment.

"Well.. Last time went pretty awfully.. Despite my usual ability to handle myself I was completely defeated.. If Yumi had been a weak person she would have died. There was no way for me to protect her. She is alive now only thanks to the fact that she overpowered her guards on her own... So I wouldn't mind bringing someone along to help us out.. Especially now that I lost my Ixa knuckle." He said with a furrowed brow. No matter how he looked at it he felt ashamed of the way he'd endangered Yumi.

"But.. It's not just my decision anymore. Yumi is my partner now, so it's also up to her." He said closing his eyes. He reached down grabbing his shirt and lifting it up a bit so he could pull off the bandages however at the moment he became a bit awkward. Even if she was a doctor taking off his shirt in front of her and Yumi was uncomfortable... So for now he held it in his teeth leading it on as he worked the bandages off. The injury itself was pretty standard. Bullet hole and a massive bruise of varying colors. From purple to blue to yellow, the bruise was only one uniform thing across, unpleasant.

"Buffets hurf." He commented through a mouth full of shirt. "I fould fow wif how many timef I'f been fot.." 'Man.. If only I'd learned barriers two years sooner..' Away from the bruise itself it was just a normal abdomen with nothing particularly special. Although with one arm he kept the center of his shirt pulled down, not hiding anything in particular, just the various remnants for former injures, and as much skin as possible since it was still pretty embarrassing.

"Mmf. Can yew hol- fese." He said holding the bandages towards Nozomi. He was out of things to hold with.

Always running
Nozomi held on to the bandages, amused at his attempts to speak with his shirt in his mouth. It was fairly obvious he had qualms about removing his shirt in her presence. Or maybe it was his partners? She couldn't imagine they could have any kind of comfortable living relationship if he was uncomfortable not wearing a shirt in front of her, so it made more sense to think it was her. Speaking of which, she had just returned, holding a juice box in her hand. Of course when she'd said drink, she had implied, if not explicitly meant alcohol, but a juice box had not been on her list of possible expectations. It was probably better for her anyway, she figured.

"Well, I have a lot of free time with the worlds in the shape they're in. It'd be nice if I could use the power I've gained towards a good cause." she said, assisting him in changing the bandages. He was quite clumsy with his mouth and arms trying to do separate things at the same time. "Battling random heartless isn't getting me anywhere and I've yet to have anything to do for the organizations I've joined up with to help with restoring everything." Nozomi cut some fresh bandages from a roll she brought and started wrapping them around his chest. It was more difficult to do with his shirt still partially in the way, but her skilled hands worked around them. "So, if you'll have me, I'll help you two in any way I can." She said, putting the final touch on his wrappings. She looked back at Yumi and smiled at her sincerely.

Helping people like this was actually quite out of character for her, but would hopefully assist Nozomi in restoring her social normality. They were nice people and she didn't really have any other friends here. Thinking like this made her feel like an old soldier and she turned her smile at Jameson. He probably knew how it felt to age too quickly. Not even most thugs spent their teenage years getting beaten this badly twice in the same week. To Jameson, much as it was to her, it was another day on the job.

"What do you say, Miss Yumi?"

"Hurm.. Your assistance on my next outing.. Well.. Last time went pretty awfully.. Despite my usual ability to handle myself I was completely defeated.. If Yumi had been a weak person she would have died. There was no way for me to protect her. She is alive now only thanks to the fact that she overpowered her guards on her own..."

Yumi ducked her head and blushed. It was the first time Jameson had referred to their Niwa misadventure since they had returned to Traverse Town. The topic had been too fresh, too ...sensitive, to broach before now. Regardless, it made her happy to know that her mentor approved of her actions. Remembering back to those awful moments, she recalled that her entire motivation at the time was to prove herself to him as more than a useless girl who would run from the first sign of danger. It was good to know she had succeeded! She looked back up at the detective as he continued to speak.

"So I wouldn't mind bringing someone along to help us out.. Especially now that I lost my Ixa knuckle. But.. It's not just my decision anymore. Yumi is my partner now, so it's also up to her."

Yumi was struck speechless, and did not have a chance to respond before Nozomi explained why she wanted to join them.

"Well, I have a lot of free time with the worlds in the shape they're in. It'd be nice if I could use the power I've gained towards a good cause."

It was a noble ambition, to be sure. Hearing that, Yumi thought she probably wouldn't mind if Jameson decided he wanted the doctor to stick around. She seemed like a nice enough person anyway, they would hopefully become good friends if they spent enough time together.

"So, if you'll have me, I'll help you two in any way I can. What do you say, Miss Yumi?"

Wait, what? Yumi was not accustomed to people asking her opinion. And now suddenly they were both staring at her expectantly, waiting for her response? How did her vote turn into the deciding factor?! Yumi was used to standing in the background, insignificant, going along with the decisions made by her superiors. This was an entirely new experience for her. It was kind of weirding her out. However, both Jameson and Nozomi were still looking at her, waiting for her reply. She realised she had better spit it out already. Like pulling off a bandaid, she though. Best done quickly so as to minimise the pain.

"Ok... since it seems like it's up to me... my vote is... of course she can hang out with us from now on! We need more females in this line of work! Welcome to the team, Doc!"

Yumi smiled up at their newest associate with a warm smile. Life was certainly about to get more interesting!
