"Thank you, please come again!"

Akira had applied for a quick job for the weekend in the cafe at the base of the Beluosus Grand Clock Tower. She knew that this particular world was full of monsters... well, ones that were less likely to attack her. She saw the ad for wanted help, so she hastily filled out the application and sent it. And by the time she found out where the cafe was, she felt too shy to tell her manager that she did not want to work.

The cafe was cool and sophisticated, with the staff wearing plain jeans and black shirts under a black apron with the name tag pinned at the top left corner. The customers going to it were predominantly monsters and demi-humans. This scared the girl. She had her fair share of surprises during her third year in Hyakuji, though none so concentrated into one location. But Akira sucked up her fear and put on her uniform, tying the apron neatly at the back. Breathe slow, girl... she sighed. You can do this...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jiini was walking through the central campus of the World of Monsters, doing his routinely circuits of scanning the area of dark forces. Usually, in this particular world, it was hard for him to pick out the monsters who were here originally from those who were there to cause harm. The clock tower was within his view and Jiini could see the cafe at the bottom. I'm getting thirsty... he thought. Maybe I could--

The boy stopped in his tracks. Just when he thought he could rest in the cafe, Jiiji spotted a familiar figure weaving her way awkwardly though the tables, serving customers. That's... Akira...?!

Stopping next a nearby bench, the boy planted himself on the seat. I can't go there... I could only imagine what she'd do... An image of his little sister crying out in surprise could get them both thrown out almost instantly. She was sensitive like that. I'll just chill here, then... he thought, but he could not take his eyes off his sister as she continued working. Just to make sure nothing bad happens...

For the most part AcaBel reminded Lavender of the SEED Institute where she taught in back home at Nova Oasis. Sure, there's Shinya and Hyakuji, institutes of learning that too had their fair share of extraordinary students and staff, but according to the accounts of Aisia, Selene and several others, most of Hyakuji High's student body tend to look perfectly human. It was here in AcaBel that both the human and the inhuman mingled around freely. Back in Nova Oasis, these are what the OASIS Foundation classified as the 'Others'. The cafe scene was not unlike something out of the SEED Institute, with the human-looking Espers and monstrous Others mixing around. For a moment, Lavender's thoughts meandered off to home, wondering how her fellow instructors at the SEED Institute were holding up.

It was all part of a standard routine for Neo-Arcadia, to monitor the realms for any significant Heartless activity. It was not too long ago that Lavender was here, and as fate would have it, the purple-haired Scotswoman would find herself her in AcaBel again, but this time not fighting Heartless of overpowered strangers in black. After having spent the better part of the pre-dawn hours and early morning monitoring the AcaBel grounds as a job applicant for the role of a lecturer, to facilitate in her job, Lavender had chosen to look nondescript, her attire consisting of a slate-colored jacket worn over a black top and sand-colored skirt; thanks to the nature of this campus, she had seen little reason to use her orichalcum talisman to make herself appear more human; makes her feel more at home, really. (it was a simple manner of showing a set of modified instructor credentials from the SEED Institute as part of her resume to do the trick) But before heading back to Arcadia headquarters to compile her reports, Lavender thought she could use a drink and a snack as she passed by the Grand Clock Tower cafe.

Lavender's eyes adjusted themselves to the dimness of the cafe's interior - in relativity to the glaring sun outdoors anyway, taking a moment to savor in the coolness of an air-conditioned indoors. "Excuse me," Lavender asked as she approached the petite silver-haired girl who appeared to be greeting patrons entering and leaving the premises. "A table for one, if you may?" The amethyst-haired Scotswoman raised her right index finger to signal one. This looks like as good a place as any to chill, I suppose, she thought.

"I'd also like a table," said another silver-haired girl from behind Lavender. Chizu grinned at the silver-haired girl that seemed to be greeting customers and then turned to Lavender. She looked a little different when she had been leading Arcadia, but Aether confirmed it. It looked like she wasn't the only Arcadia member with that idea. "Hey, Lavender-san, long time no see," she said.

Lavender wouldn't have needed to know Chizu for a very long time to know that there were several things wrong with her statement. One, Chizu hardly ever used an honorific and usually referred to Lavender as simply "Lavender" or, more recently, "boss". Two, it had actually been a very short time, as far as things went. Chizu was not a complete idiot. Lavender was here blending in, and for all she knew, that might have been for a reason. Besides, the only reason she had been able to walk through the school unnoticed was because she blended in as a student.

Anyway, she was still not used enough to the idea of Arcadia going public to talk about it so freely in front of other people.

"Ah, y-yes, of course!" Akira smiled, leading them a few paces to a couple of tables. Handing them their menus, the silver haired girl gave a light bow. "Help yourselves to any table, I'll be right back to take your order."

Good job! she mentally congratulated herself, breathing deeply as she walked over and marked the tables the two sat in. I didn't stutter very much then! To Akira, this was a great accomplishment. Glancing quickly at the pair, Akira blinked. Hey, those two...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

... Are Arcadia agents, aren't they...? Jiini recognized it. Being a freelance striker, he had learn who was who on both sides of the schism of the collapsed worlds. He did not know them by name, but he knew on when he saw one. I wonder what they're doing here...

He looked over quickly to his sister, then back at the two ladies. I better keep an eye out... Jiini leaned back on the bench. ... if they're here, something must be up...

"I'd also like a table," A voice that Lavender recognized made the purple-haired Esper turn her head in the direction of the voice, and saw the all-too familiar visage of Chizu, another girl with silver hair, wearing a rarely-seen cheerful grin on her face. "Hey, Lavender-san, long time no see," Chizu greeted. Now that was a slight surprise for the currently-appointed Arcadia leader; from the time she first became acquainted with Chizu the amethyst-haired aeromancer knew that her silver-haired counterpart was never one to use honorifics. To hear her address the Arcadia leader as 'Lavender-san' instead of simply calling her by name or referring to her as 'boss' was certainly something new.

"Aye, it's been some time indeed Chizu-chan," Lavender replied with a friendly smile that is often seen when the Esper isn't handling ops-related matters, nodding her affirmation before giving Chizu a wink - for the intents and purposes of their operation at AcaBel, they'd pose as teacher and student. "It's a pleasant surprise seeing you here."

"Ah, y-yes, of course!" The snowy-haired waitress replied, and despite the slight stutter in her speech she nonetheless managed to retain a friendly 'glad to be of service' smile on her face. New to the job, perhaps? Lavender thought - people who normally spoke like that either suffered a minor speech impediment, or are just somewhat lacking in self-confidence. "Help yourselves to any table, I'll be right back to take your order."

"Thanks," Lavender replied before gesturing towards a nearby table in a corner, next to a window. "Shall we?" Lavender smiled.

Chizu smiled as the girl ran off to go do...whatever it was waiters and waitresses did between the seating and the time it took to take their orders. She had never really understood that. The poor thing was a nervous wreck. Did she really look that scary? Don't answer that, she told Aether in a warning tone. She stuffed her hands in her pockets and glanced at Lavender as the older woman motioned towards a table by the window.

Chizu moved over to the seat opposite Lavender and sat down. Lavender's wink earlier had affirmed that she wanted to keep up the teacher and student ruse, which meant that she was here on official business. Arcadia business. It was a little amusing that even though they were supposedly going public, they still did a lot of sneaking around. She wondered what "Jameson the hothead" would say to that.

"So, what brings you here, Lavender-san?" she asked, folding her arms as she leaned back in her seat. It wasn't exactly a ladylike position, but Chizu did at least look like a student--just...not a very feminine one, which was how she behaved in Hyakuji anyway.

She glanced out the window as she spoke, appearing distracted. Chizu had developed slight paranoia over the years. That may or may not have had something to do with the group of people that had tried to kill her best friends and her then-boyfriend. Nothing seemed to be out of place as long as one didn't count the disproportionate amount of non-humans walking around. Her eyes narrowed slightly as they fell on one boy sitting on the bench. Was it just her imagination, or were white-haired people everywhere?

Chizu glanced back to Lavender, finishing her sweep of the area. Her right hand absently rubbed at her left, and Lavender would be able to see the slightly pink skin on the back of her hand that moved down her wrist and up into her sleeve. The burns inflicted by Kinclex were mostly healed now, they only hurt if she forgot and took a hot shower.

Jiini saw the eyes of the white-haired agent narrow at him, so he quickly turned away as if he just happened to want a look around the area. When he thought it was safe, he switched his eyes back onto his sister.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Akira quickly grabbed a notepad and pen from her pocket and trotted over to take the order of the two ladies sitting at the table. Stumbling slightly on her way there, she gave them a slightly embarrassed smile.

"S-sorry if you saw that!" she held up the notepad. "I just started here. Would you like to order now?"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jiini's arm twitched when he saw his sister stumble. He almost jerked himself to leap into her direction, but he needed to keep his distance. He glanced at the two ladies, particularly the one with the silver hair, as his sister spoke to them.

"So, what brings you here, Lavender-san?" Chizu asked as she leaned back in her seat, arms folded across her chest in a rather unfeminine sitting posture, stealing a glance outside the window. Lavender thought she noticed the silver-haired aeromancer pausing a while to pay particular attention to a white-haired boy sitting a few tables away. Was he observing us? she thought. Lavender's experience in the ranks of GLADIUS Corps, like any proper personnel with military training has developed a knack of sorts for knowing when one is being observed.

"Well, just checking on things around here, if you catch my drift," Lavender replied, making her answer sound like a reply in a casual conversation; she figured Chizu would be sharp enough to catch the hint that what she really mean is that she was here conducting reconnaissance. "So... how're you holding up? Does it still hurt?" the purple-haired Esper asked, taking note of Chizu's hand - the burns had all but healed, leaving behind a pinkish skin that ran up her hand and probably up her arm, although part of it was covered by the aeromancer's sleeve.

"S-sorry if you saw that!" Akira replied, a slightly embarrassed smile on her face as she held up a notepad. "I just started here. Would you like to order now?"

"Well, this establishment looks to be quite a favorite haunt around these parts," Lavender commented as she picked up the menu booklet, glancing through its selection of drinks, desserts, entrees and such. "I'd like to have an apple strudel and grape Italian soda," Lavender said as she showed the snowy-haired girl the menu and pointed to the items.

So she was right. Lavender had been here on official Arcadia business. She had been here for more personal reasons, but the fact that her personal reasons seemed to go along with Arcadia's mission didn't hurt either. She frowned, her eyes flicking down to the hand that was absently rubbing the reddened skin on her palm. She didn't even notice she was doing that. She quickly drew her hand away.

"Not much anymore," she said in a low whisper, her eyes lowered slightly. Damn it, this wasn't supposed to still affect her. It was one lost battle, that was all. She hated losing, but not like this. Akira's tripping jolted her out of her thoughts and she quickly turned her eyes towards the other girl, grateful for the chance to forget about stupid dark-haired electromancers and their stupid promises.

"You alright?" she asked the girl, who immediately told them to forget it ever happened. Chizu looked around as Lavender pointed it out, then realized that she was playing the student here and quickly recovered. "Yeah, it is," she said, hoping that she wasn't going to say anything too strange. "It's a pretty cool hangout." She glanced at the menu, turning to Akira. "Just give me a rootbeer float, if you don't mind," she said.

She stole a quick glance outside. White-haired boy was still there.

Nodding, Akira wrote down the orders, though she found it amusing that the white haired girl was trying to act all cool and tough, but added in a, 'if you don't mind' to the end of her sentence. Akira gave a light giggle, finding herself amused with her own thoughts.

"So let me repeat your order," she confirmed. "That's one apple strudel, one grape Italian soda, and one rootbeer float. Thank you, i-it won't be long..."

Akira walked off, seeing the silver-haired girl glance quickly to the side, as if observing something. Twitching her neck a little, Akira saw a lone figure sitting on a bench. She quickly turned away, handing in the order form. Was it just her imagination, or did the person on the bench have silver hair, too?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Seeing Akira look his way made Jiini panic just a little bit. She saw me... he thought hard. ...good thing she didn't recognize me quickly... He was glad that his sister was sometimes slow like that. It's probably my hair...
Reaching into his sling bag, the boy pulled out a black fedora and shoved it onto his head, tucking his fringe into the front of his hat. This might not work as well as I want, he stole a wary glance at the other white-haired girl sitting at the table. He had a strange feeling of being watched, and he did not like it very much. ... but I don't want to seem too suspicious...

"So let me repeat your order, That's one apple strudel, one grape Italian soda, and one rootbeer float. Thank you, i-it won't be long..." Akira double-checked the girls' orders, at which Lavender nodded, raising her left hand in an 'OK' hand sign.

"Aye, that would be it," Lavender replied. "Is it just me, or do I think that boy over there has been observing us up till now?" the Arcadia leader finally voiced her suspicions, bu kept her voice to a whisper in case the boy heard them, glancing over at Jiini's position just in time to see the white-haired youth don a fedora.

"You know, despite what happened on these grounds that night, I must say your abilities as an aeromancer impressed me," Lavender steered the topic away from Jiini, instead seeking to know some more about Chizu. "How about one of these days we meet up for a round of friendly sparring?" the purple-haired Esper suggested, a wry smile crossing her face - it's not an everyday thing for her to meet someone who wielded the same element as herself, much less being close to her own level of mastery.

"Yep, that's it," said Chizu, nodding at Akira as she confirmed their orders. Chizu frowned slightly as Akira left. The girl seemed pretty nervous. She didn't want to frighten her too much or anything. Chizu watched as the girl left then looked back at Lavender, frowning slightly as the older woman asked about the white-haired boy. Her eyes flicked almost imperceptibly to the left and the right as she made sure that no one was listening in.

"Maybe. I'm not sure," she whispered back. She didn't glance back at the boy. If he had seen her looking at him, she might look like the suspicious one here. She listened as Lavender talked about her aeromancy, the corners of her lips turning up in a grin as the older woman asked her about a spar. Lavender was a pretty skilled aeromancer herself, and Chizu never backed down from a challenge.

"Yeah," said Chizu, nodding in reply. "I'd like that. And thanks." It wasn't very often that people told Chizu that they were impressed with her abilities. More often than not, they just told her where she needed to improve. To hear it from the current leader of Arcadia really bolstered her spirits somewhat. Her face flushed a bright pink. "I've been...uh...working on them pretty hard lately."

She shifted uncomfortably in her seat. Accepting praise from an authority figure was not something she was used to.

Jiini shifted in his seat uncomfortably, noting that the two ladies had seen him. He was never a good spy. Looking down at the ground, he tried to think of what to do next. If I stay, they'll definitely catch onto me... he thought. I should leave... He looked back at his sister, only to see that she was looking directly at him. He froze up. This can't be good... he though, pulling down the top of the fedora, trying to hide his eyes. He could feel his heart pumping in adrenaline. Panic struck him suddenly. Please, no... please, no... please, no...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Akira was just serving an order to a different customer when she noted that the guy outside had donned a fedora hat. Slightly unusual because it was not painfully bright outside. Perhaps he's albino...? she thought, looking at the strange person. The guy looked up and their eyes met. There was something familiar with the color of his eyes. No... Akira thought. No way...

"New girl! Order up!" called a voice from the counter. "Table 8."

Akira twitched into action, picking up the platter. Table 8... she thought. Ah, yes, the two ladies... Carrying the tray to the table, the girl began to feel uneasy. That is NOT my brother... she insisted. And I am NOT being paranoid...

"H-Here's your order!" she smiled, setting the items onto the table. "P-P-Please enjoy...!"

"Maybe. I'm not sure," Chizu whispered back in response, the other aeromancer also averting her gaze from the boy, taking care to avoid raising his suspicion. Lavender smiled as she studied the silver-haired aeromancer's expression - it good to see she held such enthusiasm, and for all intents and purposes reminded Lavender of an earlier point in her life when she was training under Achilles-sensei.

"I'd like that. And thanks." Chizu replied, Lavender took it she wasn't really one for receiving praises as the silver-haired aeromancer's face flushed a bright pink. "I've been...uh...working on them pretty hard lately."

"You're welcome," Lavender nodded. That was how she believed that the students back at the SEED Institute could reach their fullest potential; it's more than just a matter of iron-willed discipline, but to make clear on what are their strengths, and to give them that positive-minded push in the right direction. "I for one am interesting in finding out the results as well; and moreover, it's been a while since I pushed myself this hard." Indeed, since she began her whole dimension-hopping thing Lavender had found herself pushed to her very limits fighting the Heartless and other foes. Once she'd been ranked by the OASIS Foundation as one of the top Espers of her world, and truly there were few that could stand against her one on one back home. But now, she'd been treated firsthand to knowing how big the world really is.

"H-Here's your order!" Akira showing up at the table snapped Lavender out of her thoughts as the items ordered by the two girls were set onto the table by the snow-haired girl. "P-P-Please enjoy...!" She'd noticed that the girl spoke with a stutter, and judging from her demeanor Lavender had concluded that it was mostly a matter of self-confidence, but while she'd seemed pretty steady a while ago when they first entered this time round the girl seemed more skittish than usual.

"Whoa, steady yourself there, miss," Lavender said to the white-haired girl who served up their orders. "People have a tendency to make mistakes when they're in this state," taking note of Akira's unease - has it got anything to do with that guy? Lavender's thoughts wandered to the boy at the nearby table; Chizu's back was facing the boy, but since Lavender sat across the table facing Chizu it was hard for the purple-haired Esper to not steal a glance at Jiini, and she'd noticed from earlier that he wasn't just looking at them.

"Can't wait," said Chizu with a grin. She was surprised to find that she meant it. After that whole deal with Kinclex and the heartless attack on Shinya, Lavender had pretty much won her respect. It wasn't an easy feat. Chizu and authority didn't mix too well, especially if authority tried to be authoritative. Lavender though had her respect as a leader, if not quite her loyalty at this point.

Akira came back with their orders, somehow even more nervous than she had been when she left. Chizu frowned for a moment and accepted her float with a word of thanks. She was pretty sure it wasn't her that was making Akira so nervous this time. She thought of the weird guy that had been hanging around outside the cafe. Come to think of it, maybe it wasn't all about her this time. Maybe the guy was here to watch someone else...

"You alright?" she asked Akira.
