More than a Ghost on a Shipwreck

Alright. This could be a neat idea (at least I like it enough to use the word neat and to post it here) or this could be the dumbest idea that I have ever had. You choose, and I'm open to suggestions if you have any to make this little plot better. Basically, I noticed that 90 percent of all the plot suggestions are usually dances, fighting big scary demons, or having robot battles. So I decided that I was going to try and come up with something that was similar, but different. It has nothing to do with dances, but there is certainly survival. Japan can have some nasty weather, and with our friend Global Warming and some climate shifts what if the students, and the rest of the inhabitants, of Hyakuji were forced to survive a week or longer blizzard without power, heaters, and a possible dwindling source of food. This would be a plot that would certainly be key in character development (which we haven't really had a good plot for that in a while ((at least to me)). But I think it would be interesting to see how we would all try to group together and survive in as many different ways as possible. Plus, there are only so many pyromancers to go around, and what happens when they begin to get tired and run out of energy. There will be key challenges that we might have to fight for, like stock piles of food, generators, and our own paranoia possibly. So I pose this question and the main idea of this possible plot if you guys think it sounds interesting. How do we weather weather? |

You know, considering that Hiro said the main premise of Shin Season 2 would focus more on internal conflicts between the students - I think this idea flows in line with Hiro's intentions. But overall, adding a bit of real-life drama is certainly an interesting twist. Not that there isn't enough drama around here... it's just that for once, we get to see drama involving more real-life, down-to-earth issues and not aliens, demons and other out-of-this-world menaces. It just goes to show that for all its peculiarity, rampaging robots and otherworldly invasions aren't the only things that could threaten the city; and that mundane, everyday things can pose an equally, if not more severe threat to Hyakuji and its people. Could also be a vehicle for us to deliver our Green Aesop, SHHS style! But hopefully this doesn't turn out like The Day After Tomorrow, which seemed more of a Space Whale Aesop. Certainly looks worth a shot. Edited by Lawman, Dec 30 2008, 06:16 PM.

When I think survival, I think of zombies and people fighting amongst themselves because of the human nature's inability to coordinate with others well in the face of panic. But I digress. A large disaster that could destroy the city and its inhabitant's way of life in one fell swoop for the long term (never mind the colony drop from Mu, lol) would be an interesting take on things. Would the students try to fight mother nature to save the city? Or would they fight amongst themselves or help each other for the sake of survival? And who would lead them in this chaos? Would there be any leadership at all to begin with? Etcetera. It shows some promise, but like Lawman said, the chaos would probably end up causing a Space Whale Aesop, and that is made more likely by the fact that all the students have super powers and magic and crap. It needs a bit more refinement and needs to be a bit specific: what kind of disaster would we want today? XD Edited by Pikachu_Fragger, Dec 31 2008, 01:59 AM.

The reason I like it is the potential lulz of being being trapped together for long periods of time. |

Well the idea is that there needs to be some chaos. And the reason I think that this is going to be an extremely interesting topic is because we all have super powers. I know that Evan would be completely willing to kill someone if he knew that he had too because he is actually rather selfish. I was putting out the general idea at the moment to see what the feed back would be, and so far it is positive and good feed back. If I can get some more support for it I'll start trying to draft something up. But I really just wanted to see how super powered characters survive when there is nothing but life to survive for. Paper is going to be very good against the cold, so Evan will have to find others who can help him. I have already started trying to think of ways to keep the chaos down, but I don't have them finalized yet, but this is all kind of based on the idea that chaos brings out the darkest in all of our hearts, and I want our characters to truly make some horrifying choices if it means their survival over another! For there is no way to fight the blizzard...only to get through it till the end. Edited by Maldaine, Dec 31 2008, 03:25 PM.

I second that. It would give everyone a good excuse to interact with one another. Eiji for example is known by reputation only, and only by those who DO somehow know anything about him and Wo Shing, which aren't many. He's never really interacted with 99% of the other chars... ever. I think the same goes for many others as well. All trapped in a tight space, arguing with one another, fighting for warmth and food, going insane... BATTLE ROYALE STYLE! Danny boy, you're as good as always. |

Well this seems to be getting enough positive feedback that I'm going to really start thinking of some crazy stuff to occur, and hopefully this little event will occur so we can see all of our characters true colors. And Kat...I'm a little crazy so I think that medical supplies would be extremely useful. Eiji...I think Evan is going to be more afraid of you than before. V.V |

And then I was once saying that Hyakuji tends to be located rather far down the 'idealistic' end of the Sliding Scale of Idealism vs. Cynicism. This idea certainly seems to be intended to give things a push towards the 'cynical' end of things; not that it bugs me, (seeing how most of us have little problems with negativity) though. |

Hopefully so! There was this period in Hyakyjian history where cynicism was king. Back when Wo Shing became so popular it made other people want to be like us and created a sad excuse of a clone. Back then HHS was all about blood and violence. It was a dark time and it made people feel the real hyakuji had been lost forever. I miss those times, and with well thought out plots such as this one we might see those golden days again. |

I hate to be a downer (no I don't) but I find a glaring problem with this. A school full of super powered kids and students such as ours doesn't seem like it would be susceptible to such a natural disaster. Considering some of us can control the freakin' weather and the kind of over abundance of pyromances and aquamancers makes the whole blizzard thing kinda problematic. Then there's the RP thing. While it seems neat, I don't think it actually does fit with what Hiro was getting at when he wanted more inter student stuff ti be the focus. Though this is of course just my speculation. I think the point is that the site needs more actual school related rps and events. There has been a dire lack of such lately, and it kinda seems that things are getting off track. Furthermore, something like that really does have consequences. If only, the recovery period after the event would be significant. A city doesn't really just bounce back from something like that. To me, it feels like it would be half assed to leave that part, and at the same time it doesn't seem like it would be that much fun. Then again, these are all just my own opinions, and they're probably influenced by the fact that I hate natural disaster movies. |
